Personal statement

HELLO THERE!! My name is Emmylou Hartley, friends call me Emmy; at least they would if i had any friends! Anywho, I am currently studying photography at west suffolk college, which I really enjoy, even with a rough start.

I hope to get to use my newly devoloped photography skills in the future, maybe in a media/journalism type of job! I am also considering uni, but that still needs to be approved of by my mother.

In the summer holiday, I am going to go out and take my own style pictures to get a more personal feel to my work for the next year at college.

Photography

I have only been into photography since I started this course. I have always been open-minded to any type of art, and having always been a fan of art and its history, I decided to explore something new, and learn a new skill. The one and most important thing I've learned is how to use a darkroom. Being into arts, I never really studied photography at all and was quite interested in learning the developing techniques of a good old fashioned darkroom.

Photographers I like are:

Annie Leibovitz
Helmut Newton
Nan Goldin
Mario Testino

I like fashion photography; not so much in magasines, but I like the ultra glamourous images, where models are wearing extravagant clothing. I also like wild life photography, and anything that is outside and not man-made. Two contrasting genres I know!!

It looks a bit messy, but it was just an experiment!
The above picture was also taken using a slow shutter. I did it by getting somebody to swing round some fairy lights while i took the photo.

First Blog!!

Here are some photographs I took at the beginning of the course!


I took these as part of a project called 'The Seven Deadly Sins'. The top one was for Anger. I chose to use subtle images, and people sometimes some when the get angry or stressed out, so thats why I chose an ashtray.

The bottom image is for Pride, as people take pride in their appearance alot, I decided to use a make up and a mirror; the mirror also used for a vanity issue. I edited all images in photoshop. (to be posted soon).
